Key constraints, redefine, some facets (patterns), substitution
groups, automatic substitution, and a few other things.

If you don't validate with an XML Schema, you have pure strings,
and you need to implement the comparaison yourself. With an XML
Schema, you get structured values (records), and you also have
to write the comparaison yourself, but it's much easier.
